Style Icon Inspiration: Marie Antoinette

Like many others, I became fascinated with ill-fated Marie Antoinette when the movie came out four years ago.  The combination of the saturated pastel colors, rich fabrics, and over the top decor of Versailles grabbed my attention and hasn't let go since.  I figured I'd get away from 20th century style icons for a change and use Marie- the movie character and actual person- as inspiration for this post.  Note the similarities between some of her portrait gowns and movie costumes!

Let Them Eat Cake!: Martha Stewart Edition

So, originally I was going to do this post on cakes I found in a variety of places.  But then I made the mistake of starting on Martha Stewart Weddings and never ended up looking anywhere else because, once again, Martha blew my mind.  Her "50 Great Wedding Cakes" article really was full of 50 great cakes!  It was so difficult to choose which ones I wanted to post, but I finally narrowed it down to ten.  Note: you may want to hurry up and bake a cake before you look at these because you'll definitely be craving some by the time your finished...

Everyone Needs Etsy!

I am always a little shocked when I come across people who still don't know what Etsy is, and so in doing this post I hope to spread a little Etsy-love and show a few of the amazing ways you can use Etsy for your wedding needs. 

Etsy is, essentially, an online craft fair where crafty people like you and me are able to set up shop and sell their handmade items to anyone in the world.  When searching Etsy, there are over 30 main categories to choose from, anywhere from art to candles to crochet to music to woodworking.  "Weddings" has its very own category also, where you can find anything from accessories to favors.   I looked through the wedding section and picked out a few seller's stores to feature in this post.  I looked for products that were unique and eye catching, as well as looking well made.  I also only chose seller's with 100% positive feedback ratings.  By purchasing some of your wedding items from Etsy, you are helping support independant artists and also coming away with a unique product that will really stand out at your big day.  Also, many times artists are willing to make custom changes, a perk you usually don't receive from mass produced goods.  So take a look, and also remember to check out the thousands of other artists selling their creations on Etsy!

Let Them Eat Cake!: Spring/Summer Edition

I decided to shuffle through some of the wedding cake photos on Flickr and find some that would be perfect for spring and summer weddings!  Amongst all the cakes (and cake wrecks), there were a few that I thought were really fun, unique, and perfect for this time of year.  The links below the photos will take you back to their original site.

Despite the blue accented quilting, ribbon details, blue painted flowers, and suger calla lillies, this cake manages to not look overdone!

These cupcakes are so much fun for a more casual affair!

At first glance this cake looks white, but it's actually tinted the lightest shade of blush- so pretty!

This cake adds a little bit of latin flavor to a hot summer wedding, featuring daisies, sugared key limes, and mexican buttercream filling.  The top and bottom layers are coconut lime cake with key lime curd filling and coconut cream filling.  The middle layer is vanilla ginger cake with mango filling.

 

While this cake may be a little (or way too) loud for many brides, I appreciate it's boldness!

Featuring lots of great suger flowers, this cake's color palette really makes it stand out!

This sweet, whimsical cake would be so pretty at an outdoor reception!
